Dear Valued Credit Union of Denver Member,
In light of the news surrounding Silicon Valley Bank in California and Signature Bank in New York, this felt like the perfect time to remind you about the health and stability of Credit Union of Denver.
Because we are a federally insured credit union, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) insures your money, and your deposits at Credit Union of Denver are protected to at least $250,000 per individual depositor through the National Credit Union Shared Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). This is the same type of insurance that is provided by the FDIC that insures banks. Same coverage, same safety, just a different regulatory agency within the US government that administers and regulates it. For more information on share insurance, visit mycreditunion.gov/share-insurance.
Unlike stockholder owned profit driven banks, your credit union is a not-for-profit cooperative, owned by you and the other members using our services. Our cooperative, not-for-profit structure inherently holds us accountable to you and to the other members. We do not have stockholders. We do not engage in risky practices to meet stockholders’ profit demands. Our portfolio is diverse and not dependent on a sole industry as what happened with Silicon Valley Bank or Signature Bank. Our services are diverse, and we are here for our members and our community, not profit driven stockholders and Wall Street.
We live and work in the communities that we serve, taking local deposits and making local loans. We are healthy, strong, safe, and focused on serving our members, as we have for over 90 years.
We are very financially sound and have the highest net worth ratio for all Colorado credit unions of our asset size or higher as of 12/31/22, far exceeding the regulatory standard of a “well-capitalized” credit union and our members can rest assured, knowing that we are very well-positioned to serve you, our members, for many years. Information on all federally insured credit unions can be found at NCUA.gov/ResearchCreditUnion and you can search for us by our charter number which is 64342.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact us by calling 1.800.279.3288 or 1.303.234.1700 or email us at support@cudenver.com.
Thank you, as always, for your membership with Credit Union of Denver.
Sincerely,
Chris Wallace, CPA, CFE
